I have had the best time learning about Ann Richards, her life, her work and the impact she had. Richards had her first child at 24, entered politics at 43, became famous at 55 and was elected governor at 58 years old. Her accomplishments challenge all our narratives around what women can do and when, and, she was funny as heck!

ANN by Holland Taylor is an intimate, no-holds-barred portrait of Ann Richards, the legendary late Governor of Texas. This inspiring and hilarious play brings us face-to-face with a complex, colorful, and captivating character who was bigger than the state from which she hailed. The New York Times described the play as…” fiery, salty, and brash!” The Washington Post declared ANN… “fun and engaging…marinated in Texas wryness…ANN wants you to savor the wit of this up-by-the-bootstraps politico, who began…as an adoring wife and mother and reinvented herself by entering politics and ascending the ladder."

“A highly entertaining and lovable depiction of a woman with energy to burn and purpose to fill.—Huffington Post

Ellen is thankful for people like Ann Richards who defined early and out loud what a lift it is for women to parent well, work well, and contribute meaningfully to their communities in a culture that relies on, but doesn't appreciate, their matriarchs. Ellen is grateful to PRIME Productions for creating a space for women to make art in all phases of their lives and for letting her bring her kids along as needed.
